If your Solis radiologist notices something on your screening mammogram that requires further examination, you will be called back in for more diagnostic procedures. Your primary care physician or gynecologist might also set a diagnostic appointment for you if he or she detects a lump in your breast during an in-office breast exam, or if you have noticed a lump, thickening, or unusual discharge on a self breast examination.
Don't worry – a diagnostic appointment does NOT mean you have cancer. It is merely the next step to clarify any abnormalities detected during a screening mammogram or doctor's exam. During your diagnostic appointment, a Solis physician will usually perform either or both of the following procedures:
